Thank You My Noble Countrymen!

I remember the times four months back when someone my age was brutally gang raped, when she struggled hard for her life for thirteen odd days, when thousands of men and women protested day and night on streets against it, when peaceful people praying for her recovery were lathicharged and water cannoned by the coldhearted Delhi police and when the anger of people literally came out against the indifferent government and its officials in a very very long time.

I cried a lot then, a lot....for her, for me, for every other girl/woman who unfortunately, yes unfortunately belongs to this country I live in. However somewhere in the back of my mind it was convincing to see the awakened masses on roads resisting the gruesome act, demanding justice for her and protection for their own sisters, daughters and friends. I was a little hopeful then that may be things would change for the better. Every day I used to sit glued to the TV to keep track of her health. I wanted her to live and inspire and fight. But, no she died. Every politician and policeman promised that her sacrifice would not be futile, that they would soon come up with stricter laws, that the culprits would be severely punished.

Alas, as usual and as expected, everything went in vain! I see no amendments in Criminal law bill, I see no stern punishment yet being given to those six savages, I see no measures being taken to curb the menace.  That little hope I had was mercilessly exterminated. What all I see now is increasing number of rapes in the country, particularly in the capital. WHAT I SEE IS A 5 YEAR OLD RAPED REPEATEDLY BY HER NEIGHBOR.WHAT I SEE IS HUMANITY BEING ASSAULTED ALL OVER AGAIN WITH UTTER SHAMELESSNESS! IS THIS THE CULTURE WE'RE ALWAYS PROUD OF?

When the Delhi gang rape happened, I heard a lot of well-educated and generally sensible people saying, “She shouldn't have been out after 8, that too with a male friend, in a place like Delhi", "She should have been sensible to stay home after dark”. Then came ‘expert’ comments from khaps and other 'eminent' politicos-"Girls should not wear provocative clothes”,” Age of marriage should be further reduced to 16","Rape happens not in traditional Bharat but in westernized India", not to forget the dented-painted remark and Aasharam Bapu's 'Bhaiya' theory. To all these people and those who say “She deserved it”, “She invited it all by herself” -WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT THE FIVE-YEAR-OLD? WAS SHE RESPONSIBLE FOR HER OWN RAPE?A FIVE-YEAR-OLD-KID? Should she be blamed for playing provocatively, wearing provocative frocks and in general, existing provocatively on earth instead of getting aborted in the womb?

It boils my blood to know that a bottle and candles were retrieved from her body, to learn a policeman bribed her father with 2000 rupees to not file an FIR, to see a policeman telling her family that they should be thankful that the girl is alive, to see a policeman slapping a protesting girl. I am filled with immense rage and fury. I want to scream out loud, very loud, loud enough to break the earth into pieces.HOW INSENSITIVE CAN A MAN BE?

Truly speaking I never had expectations from politicians. How can one expect them to frame tougher laws with the likes of Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Gopal Kanda and N D Tiwari being the MP themselves. I never had faith in the police. They are more barbaric than animals. I am flabbergasted by their insensitivity towards the society. I only had hope in you, the people. But the callousness of the first two P’s has badly thrashed the third P.  Sadly,no lessons were learnt from Nirbhaya’s case. I am dried of all hope! I am sacred to the core. And this time I have absolutely nothing to say except that it is now I realize why my parents are always over-protective for me. No reforms or mindset change can happen in this great country of ours. I can trust nobody(exceptions apart) from the autowallah to the neighbor next door. THANKYOU for giving me a whole new bout of fear (of EVERYTHING) all over again. Good going my fellow noble countrymen. Just well done!
Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
A teary-eyed ,really scared girl in India

PS:BTW Dear Khaps, planning to reduce the age of marriage to 5?Ehhh 5 months would be better,no?

On this Woman’s day for all days to come

Hello All,

Today on this Woman's Day I'm not here to boast of my genre something like "Do you know why God Created Man 1st and then Woman? Cause you need a rough Draft before creating a master piece." This is one of the messages I got today.Total crap, ain't it? I won't be bragging here about my "Greatness" like “I’m a cute daughter,I’m a sweet sister,I’m a lovely lover, I’m to-be-a-darling wife ,I’m to-be-an-adorable mother so on and on and on”.Neither would I speak of “the heavenly fire that kindles my heart and soul”,that I’m a source of immense strength, that I could move mountains, that I could touch the sky, that I’m ever smiling, ever tempting, ever kind, ever patient, ,uncomplaining, compromising dot dot dot.

Instead, today I earnestly wish for something. It’s not that I’m against the aforesaid ideas(Infact I would love to be so) but why always such obligations? Why so many expectations? Why idealizations? Why stereotypifications? Why can’t I just celebrate Myself without considering the roles I play in other people’s life?I also have the same set of ideas, ambitions and emotions as the other ‘humans’ (read men)have. So if they can why can’t I live my dreams, why can’t I make mistakes, why can’t I be selfish, and why can’t I complain? Why?I also have got just one life,no?

I’m always of the belief that men and women are different and equal. Two sides of the same coin,we complete each other.God created us that way.We should appreciate this difference. But it’s really sad that we are always verbally attacking each other to project that one is superior to other.Grow up people!!It’s high time.

Well, here’s my wishlist on this Woman’s day for all days to come:

I don’t want to be compared to anyone or against any benchmark.
I don’t want to be judged based on some pseudo- standards and preconceived ideas.
I just want to live my life with peace and independence, doing small things that make me happy and the world a better place. I want freedom to choose and decide for myself.
In my small way I want to be a part of this world and make small little contributions.
I don’t want to be discriminated against or be subject to bias.
I don’t want reservations or special privileges but I don’t want to be deprived of my basic rights either.
I have a right to say no.I have a right to be heard.

I want that I could walk/drive on the street without having someone wink/ whistle/ hoot/ hum/ stare.
I want that I could cycle down a long quiet road, whistling in the rain, enjoying the drops on my bare arms and legs, without worrying that it’s getting dark.
I want that I could travel loads and loads with mine girl-friends,without being ‘unsafe’
I want that at some 1:45 AM in the night I could go to the terrace and play my guitar, whenever desired.
I want that I could say what I want, when I want, without people going ‘haaawwww!’
I want that I could wear what I want without aunties looking at me like I’m a bad indecent girl or that I have no morals or whatever.
I want to be accepted as I am…I want to celebrate the idea that I am a Woman.

Nothing more,Nothing less!!

PS:This is not exclusively my writeup.I read this wishlist  here and here, and  hence the post.

PARI

"Why are you doing this when you can have your own?",Mom asked furiously, almost in tears.

"Atleast think about the society. They will raise so many questions to you and your parents. They'll doubt your...",an acquaintance was trying hard to convince.

"You people are hurting your parents. They had so many aspirations from you.Don't you have any obligations towards them?", another fellow added.

"Apna khoon apna hi hota hai.No one else can take his place.Do whatever you want!",Papa asserted loudly and left the room.

But the couple was adamant to their decision.Nothing in the world could bent them.

They said "Sorry Ma,Sorry Paa.But we are really not bothered what others would think of us.We are not doing anything wrong. And If you want we'll have our own too.But this has to be done.Today and Now.We have promised her."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
They took the keys and hurried to the place.

"Hello sister!"

"Hello Sir.Hello Ma'am.All formalities have been done. You just have to sign here.",the matron said.

"Yeah.we'll just do."

"Congratulations to both of you.God bless you people."

"Thank you sister!"

They both looked at each other.Happiness, love, contentment and proud tinged vividly in their eyes. They distributed sweets to everyone out there.

He kissed her on her forehead for the very first time and hugged her tight.(Ah!Truly Divine. An awesome feeling).

The three of them then headed towards the temple on the opposite side of the road, to seek blessings of the Almighty.

The papers on the dashboard of the car were gleaming brightly on that full moon night. They read,

"St. Anthony Girls Orphanage
.........................................
.........................................
Child's Name:PARI
Age:2 yrs ,6 months
Sex:Female

Adopted by:
Mrs and Mr.............
on 6'Feb'2011"

And on the backseat were kept a teddy-bear,a doll in pink,a toy train,a remote control car,a big box of chocolates and toffees, small little pair of shoes, few packets from 'Kids Wear' shop etc etc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once in school ,a friend asked "What does it mean to be adopted?"

"It means",said Pari "that you grew in your mommy's heart instead of her tummy :)"

What's so much there in the 'Surname'?

In every home a burning ghat
In every home a gallows
In every home are prison walls
Colliding against the walls
She falls ......................................

Sati System,Female Foeticide,Dowry Deaths,Honour Killing.Any guesses what's next in the 'honourable' series? The scenario today is Grandmothers killing grand daughters, brothers killing sisters,Mothers slaughtering daughters and Fathers smothering sons.Murder of the BLOOD,by the BLOOD ,for the BLOOD.Who said Man was born free.I'm amazed at this horrendous show of man's inhumanity to man.Truly awestruck. And the irony is that these barbarous and  savages justify their 'deeds' under the aegis of 'FAMILY HONOUR'.

We all grow up with the weight of history on us.  Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains.Probably that's the reason we look forward to Best lifestyles,Vision 2020,'Educated Society' but we cannot do away with CASTEISM  and COMMUNALISM.It is not only limited to the lower strata but to the 'high-born' equally. I wonder what's so much there in the 'SURNAME' that differentiates between humans, that brings the devil inside out ,that causes a huge massacre of love ,of emotions,of feelings,of bonds and of relationships. Incidentally and interestingly, it is ironic to see participants in the debate over the caste census argue that ideally, caste should be done away with ‘except in matters of marriage’!Anything more stupid ?We all are against RESERVATIONS but we do not support Inter-cast Marriages.I have no other words, but I feel pity on the narrow-mindedness of the 'intelligent elites'.

Is it always the Caste factor or something else?Probably loving-against-the-will-of-parents.Whatever it is ,the 'mindsets' will have to change to match the pace of fast-moving -world.

Let our RELIGION  be KINDNESS ,our CASTE be HUMANITY.

To all my boy friends!

Well if you have not noticed the space between 'boy' and 'friends' and you are expecting something cheesy  here, you are wrong. This silly grin on your face will soon halt on a serious note.

I was heavily grieved today after reading another dowry debacle of a 23 year old who was murdered barbarously by a satan who unfortunately had become her husband, just some 3 hours before. Shame on humanity! There are atleast 5 cases of dowry deaths daily on my local newspaper itself. And we proudly boast that our literacy rate is increasing.Damn it! If you are incapable of feeding another person in your family who's gonna be your other half  for the rest of your life, why the hell you sought to marry? How can you sell your soul for a hefty sum or an Indigo Manza or a Diamond ring when you can't manage to have them all by your own very self. Even if it's not you but your parents why don't you stand against something which is verily immoral? Why you 'kuldeepaks' end up burning an innocent heart?Sorry, but if you can't stop all this (atleast in your case)then you do not qualify enough, neither morally nor legally to tie knots(with any girl whatsoever).Be a GAY man! Yeah, you read it right-Be a GAY you looser!
